The Good Earth

http://www.oprah.com/article/oprahsbookclub/goodearth/good_novel_synopsis

I read, off and on ..started it some time in elementary school with Enid Blytons - famous five and secret seven, Nancy Drew it was next and Hardy Boys and Nevil Shute, Arthur Hailey, Ayn Rand (who can forget Atlas Shrugged), wodeHouse, Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes, Mills and Boons (inevitable you say:-)), Wilbur smith, Robert Ludlum, Irving Wallace, John Grisham, Jon karan,RK NArayan, Erich Segal, westerns, HArry Potter & some classics and some non-fiction thrown in and some telugus - Yeddanapudi, Yandamoori etc. (was one of the millions that followed vennelalo adapilla as a weekly serial) and Ofcourse those that alzheimer's is blocking right now. Cannot forget falling back on my mothers copy of 'Vantalu Pindivantalu by Malathi Chandoor' on days when there was nothing else at hand.

That was when I enjoyed single life - enter marriage, family and less than 20/20 vision, my reading took a back seat for a few years save some Technical books/manuals, Harry Potters and John Grishams or Readers digests or blogs :-)) It took me more than a decade and a need to keep myself occupied to get back to reading again..

Was looking up Reading Lists as I have been 'out of touch' with the Readers world - and also decided to reflect on my reading.

I spotted a book - The Good Earth By Pearl S Buck on Oprah's Reading list and it sent me down a memory lane and through a reading that I did in my class X or XII vacation that survived alzheimer's.. want to read it one more time !
